Breath-taking antique/vintage evening gown from the Victorian era, 1870s. Lilac and cream striped tissue silk, with embroidered netting lace flounces at the sleeve openings and a quilted solid cream silk panel at the center of the skirt. Two pieces, a bodice and a skirt with an attached train. The bodice is extremely fitted, with interior boning and it laces up the center front over a cream lace insert. The skirt is full but straight-falling in the front and sides, the back has more volume due to tighter pleats into the waistband there and will accomodate a bustle (the shape of which should be more of the long, graceful type as opposed to the higher, shelf-like version of the 1880s. Both pieces are fully lined: the bodice is cream cotton and the skirt in brown cotton. The underside of the train section also has a pleated organdy facing with lace on the very edge. There are no labels or tags to the dress, although it had to have been professionally made. Sorry, but I have no history on the dress as to who owned it or where it was from.
Condition is overall good to very good, as you can see, this displays very well. I caution against actually wearing the dress though, as it is quite old. The underarms are faintly yellowed and the silk is starting to break there (it is relatively sturdy and shatter-free elsewhere); when the sleeves are down (ie not purposely lifted) the broken silk isn't obvious. There are some light water stains to the sleeves. A small hole in the lace at the center front of the bodice, but when the laces are done up, this is never seen. The purple ribbon lacing is not original. The skirt has a few very faint and tiny spots you have to search for, very subtle fade on the train. There are a few very tiny holes you have to search for, most are pin-tip sized. A few very minor breaks at the very edge of the hem.
Measurements are:
Bodice: tightly laced 32" bust, 24" waist, 15" shoulders to side waist (the center front and back points are a little longer).
Skirt: 26" waist, 42" long at the front, 64" from back center waist to hem of train section.
