Fabulous vintage fashion hat from the late 40s, early 50s, by the illustrious millinery designer, Lilly Dache. Black wool felt hat base, a small rounded crown with turned-up brim. Covering the felt is fine mesh/tulle, and covering the tulle on the outside crown and outside edge of the brim is a ton of small black sequins. There are also medium-sized half-moon sequins and large black "bubble" paillettes. There is also a black velvet ribbon around the crown, and spilling over the side of the brim is a veil of the same fine black tulle. Inside crown has a ribbon edge band and elastic chin band. Woven label in silver on black reads Lilly Dache, Paris New York, 78 East 56th Street, NY. Hat base's maker was Merrimac, there is also a tag from the museum collection this came out of. I left attached the lot tag from the Whitaker sale I bought this from, in case someone wanted to hold on to it for reference/posterity. I originally bought this hat for my own collection, but have since decided to downsize.
Condition is good in general, restorable to almost excellent. The noticeable issue is that the tulle veil has some holes and tears (should be visible in the pictures). I believe that you could replace the veil itself, or if you wanted to keep the hat intact, it can be tucked into the inner brim. Otherwise the hat is in great shape, there are a few missing sequins but because there are so many this isn't obvious.
Hat is meant to perch a bit on the top of the head, rather than fit over it and around the forehead. Inside circumference is 18". Diameter of hat from brim edge to edge is about 10".
