Romantic vintage fancy peignoir from the late 20's, earl 30's. Light peachy-pink in color, the exterior is fine silk mesh lace that has been embroidered with thicker, fuzzier (like a thin chenille) silk threads to create a dense floral design. The shoulders are gathered and the sleeves are short but very full; the peignoir is floor-length and even longer at the back-my mannequin is pretty tall so on a wearer under 6' this is actually meant to train at the back and sort of "puddle" at the sides. Attached at the waist is a sash of the same embroidered mesh, it secures with hooks/eyes at the side. Over the closure for the sash are silk petalled roses. Fully lined in silk chiffon; has an attached chiffon sash at inside waistband that ties. Lable at neck reads Marshall Field & Company Negligee Section.
Very good condition, definitely presentable for display or wearing. After checking carefully I found a couple small breaks at the seam for the front lapeled collar-they are covered when the lapels are folded down as intended but they could be repaired and made completely invisible as well. The lining has a 1" tear at the right underarm, a 1"x1" tear at the back hem, and a 4" tear at the back hem-none of these show from the exterior and even when the lining is looked at none are in a location that would be spotted first-they also could be repaired.
Not meant to be fitted to the body, as this was intended to be worn over a nightgown, etc. However, measurements when laid flat and natural with the sash hooked into place are: 40" bust, 30" waist, 50" hips, about 17" shoulders to waist, front waist to hem is 43", back waist to hem is 48".
